Just a short background of my reflection is John the Baptist, coming out from the desert, telling the people: “Repent and believe the gospel. God is close at hand.”
Indeed God demands repentance. He asked for faith in Him. To support that background of my reflection is Jesus telling his newly found disciples: “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” I just couldn’t imagine that kind of response. They left their nets at once, even their fathers and the rest. They just followed Jesus! It seems difficult to comprehend, but probably, Jesus was really that attractive, He was a Magnet!
As I have written, I also left what was dear to me, even a sickly mother and old father, I left my family and friends and my work in the bank. Now, I am engaged in fishing. I am helping to fish men and women, to enter into the net of the Lord. I am a happy missionary. Even if they will ask me again and again if I am happy with the time invested in my fishing activity, I will always say “Yes I am.” The basic goal in the works of the vineyard is to bring people back to the Lord and that you are happy in doing so. In fact, gratitude is in my heart for this activity, for the calling to become fisher of men.
I am also happy for the teamwork of the fishermen. Not only one is casting and pulling the net. There are many. We are many in the mission. It doesn’t belong to me alone. We work together because of the ‘fishing’ activity. We become and we are striving to be, and evangelizing fishermen, an evangelizing community. That should make us busy, to be engaged always in bring people back to the fold.
